The curious life of a Computer Science Engineer.

To all those computer science engineering grads out there, here's me creating a small tribute to reveal the mysterious life of a CS engineering student, what really goes on inside that constantly ticking mind and how he adapts to the million complex situations he's thrown into.

Lets begin with Step 1: How an Engineering student actually comes into existence. The most common reasons that exist are Parental Pressure, Peer Pressure, Joining it just for the sake of it i.e. to waste away four years of your life to figure out how you're going to waste the rest of your lift. And finally, there's my personal favorite, the one's who actually like subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Now the next step is choosing a definitive course that you can squander your time in. The most common options for that include the Computer Science or I.T fields. The rest actually demand that the student spend his time to make something out of his worthless life.

Lets move on to Step 2: Now that the students have assembled themselves in their respective classes, the need to showcase their talents emerges. They actually begin studying in earnest with the need to make their parents proud ( Not all of them) and to do something worthwhile. Mind you, this doesn't usually last for more than two semesters. They get their results and everyone's happy, sweets are distributed until the third semester shows up in the horizon. Students are shifted to their original courses where they're implied to spend the rest of their prison term.

Now here's the beginning of the crucial stage for a CSE student, so read carefully.
Step 3: All is well until the first obstacle in the form of a difficult subject shows up. The first programming paper. The candidates manage as much as they can, even going so far as to research for it and enlist the help of the Internet, with the occasional gossip research.  The keys 'Ctrl', 'C' and 'V' ( Copy and Paste) are the only ones that have fingerprints on them. Those who end up not understanding the subject, drop out of the race and stick to mugging someone else's assignment to submit on time or cajoling a friend to do it for them.

Steps 4 and 5 follows a similar repetitive pattern of that what is seen in Step 3. The ones blessed with the will and courage, the ability to grasp subjects with crystal clear clarity and strengthen their beliefs with further learning, earn their place and mark as the elite of the class. Coding no longer becomes a priority as much as searching for someone who's already completed the assignment. The problem becomes less complex if the subject in question is a close acquaintance. Hence, over the fourth and fifth semesters, blissful ignorance paves the way for indulgence in other social activities until the final phase of the compute engineer's life begins.

Step 6: Something new ( yet irrefutably ancient) makes its way in, unknowns ( or in cases known) to our engineer as he wades through the poor of books, assignments and lines of cryptic codes. A seed of lingering doubt is passed off as mere superstition until the Placement Officer enters the room and addresses the waiting crowd. Everyone's heart jumps into their mouth as they listen with bated breaths ( except for the occasional few who still don't give a single damn) to his instructions and its first semester all over again. Though cautious, there are a few who still disregard the seriousness of the case and go about their daily, lethargic works.

Step 7: Dun, Dun, Dun.... The onset of the swarms of companies waiting to recruit prospective engineers, line up. They come, donning eclectic black suits, causing everything to tremble in their knees and once the first person to make it all the way to the final interview comes out, they swarm him and prod him with questions. Others fry their brains to complete their assignments and projects on time, pulling all-nighters as easy as eating an entire Chicken Tandoori. Friends turn enemies and relationships get destroyed. A line is clearly drawn between the one's who'd make it out of the war zone alive and those who are still trapped inside.

The final saga of the rambunctious battle is continued in our final step.
Step 8: The victorious settle back into their earlier calm and satisfied (mostly smug state) to enjoy the spoils of their victory while the ones who'd chosen that option earlier during the years were made to study and boost their knowledge. Projects are completed with the help of the lecturers and finally emerge the grads with the scars of this long waged war. Though there are regrets about things they wished they'd done, the what if's in regards to the people they'd wanted to get to know better and the desire to become some better, the only thing that surpasses all these is the contentment of crossing one phase of life into another.

I hope that this in some way, gave you a tiny insight into the working of a computer science grad because trust me, it wasn't easy.

And this picture proves exactly what I'm talking about.

That's it for now. I hope you enjoyed reading this article.

Signing off for now,
